Being a leader in senior living doesn’t come without some bumps and bruises along the way, and each of those experiences in our past can affect our current performance. Sometimes we can see how our “baggage” influences our leadership decisions, but for many leaders their baggage shows up in more subtle ways. Being micromanaged in a previous position, for instance, may lead you to compensate by offering too little (or too much) supervision in your current leadership role.
Of course, it’s our experience and how we apply it that makes us valuable as leaders in the first place. Unpacking your baggage is simply an exercise designed to reveal whether your decisions, reactions, or responses are being unduly influenced by your past or, perhaps, a faulty belief system.
